Everyone’s #1 Question

Do my wisdom teeth need to be removed?

You can keep your wisdom teeth if these conditions are met:

  • They’re in the right position
  • You can keep them clean
  • They have another tooth to bite against

If not, these things can happen

  • They can be a source of inflammation or infection so your body is constantly fighting something
  • They can cause damage to adjacent teeth or move them around
  • They can cause cysts or push against your cheek or gums

Ready to take the next step?

Or have any questions about insurance? Maybe your wisdom teeth are acting up and you need someone to see you today?

What’s the process at Wisdom Teeth Montreal?

Consultation

Your first visit is all about planning. Dr. El-Onsi will review your X-rays, explain whether removal is needed, go through the process and answer any questions you may have. We’ll also explain the costs and insurance coverage if you have any.

Oral Sedation (if applicable)

At the surgery appointment, for patients who feel anxious, safe oral sedation can be given before the procedure to help you stay relaxed and comfortable.

Anesthesia

A local anesthetic gently numbs the area, ensuring you don’t feel pain during the procedure.

Opening & Removal

A small opening is made in the gum (if necessary), and the wisdom tooth is carefully removed using precise, gentle techniques.

Sutures

Stitches may be placed to support healing. In many cases, they are dissolvable and do not need to be removed later.

Post-Op Instructions

You’ll leave with clear, easy-to-follow instructions for home care, along with a plan for managing comfort and diet during recovery.

Healing & Recovery

Most patients return to normal activities within a few days. Full healing continues over the following weeks, with our team available to support you at every stage.

Follow Up

If necessary, we’ll schedule a follow up. No need to worry about the sutures because they will dissolve on their own.

Feeling Anxious?

Sedation Options for Wisdom Tooth Removal

For those who feel anxious about dental treatment, Dr. El-Onsi offers oral sedation as a safe and comfortable solution. Taken in pill form before your procedure, it helps you stay calm and relaxed during the procedure. You’ll remain awake and able to respond, but most patients remember little of the appointment afterward. This option is ideal for easing nerves and making wisdom tooth removal a much smoother experience.

What about

Insurance and Cost

We’ll take you through all the details

We know that cost is an important part of planning your wisdom tooth removal. That’s why we send an estimate to your insurance company electronically, so you’ll have a clear idea of your coverage before treatment begins. Our team will take the time to sit down with you, review the breakdown of costs, explain what your insurance covers, and outline your portion. Depending on the complexity of the procedure, fees (before any coverage) typically range from $200 to $550 per tooth. Our goal is to make sure there are no surprises — just clear, transparent information so you can move forward with confidence.

What’s recovery like?

These are some do’s and don’t for good recovery

Reduce Swelling – Ice

Apply an ice pack on and off every 10 minutes during the first 24–48 hours. This helps minimize swelling and keeps you more comfortable.

Avoid Dry Socket

If the blood clot becomes dislodged, it can lead to a painful condition called dry socket. Following the care instructions closely reduces this risk.

No Smoking

Do not smoke during recovery, as it delays healing and increases the chance of dry socket. Even light smoking can cause complications.

Take your Medication

Take the prescribed pain medication as directed even if you feel no discomfort. Staying ahead of discomfort will make recovery smoother.

No Physical Activity

Avoid sports, workouts, or heavy lifting for 3–4 days after surgery. Rest gives your body the chance it needs to heal properly.

Soft Diet

Eat soft foods for the first 24 hours (mashed potatoes, smoothies, eggs, Mac & Cheese). After 24 hours, you can start eating whatever you can if you comfortable.

Stop the bleeding

Bite gently on the gauze pads we provide to help control bleeding. Replace them as instructed, but avoid rinsing or sucking, which can disturb healing.

Keep It Clean

Start rinsing gently (only 24 hours after the surgery) and if provided, use the syringe after 3 days to rinse the area out after every meal.

Follow-Up

In some cases, a short follow-up visit is scheduled to check healing. This helps ensure everything is on track for a smooth recovery. If you need us at any time, please contact us asap 🙂
